Mind Movies 2.1 Review — A Behind the Scenes Look

Mind Movies is a great product that just keeps getting better. In case you’re reaching this page and don’t know what a Mind Movie is, imagine being able to create a 2 or 3 minute commercial filled with goals, dreams, and qualities you want to have. Advertising agencies have used this power for years. Now, you can use the same techniques to help yourself. Another way to think of this is as a vision board in video format. In this Mind Movies 2.1 review, I want to tell you a bit about my experience using it.

Now, I first heard of Mind Movies in 2010, but their story goes further back than that. You see, Ryan Higgins and Natalie Ledwell created Mind Movies back in 2008. But it wasn’t until they were about to launch 2.0 that I found out about them.

In the beginning, I think Mind Movies may have just told you how to create your own. I’m not sure what tools they had back then to really help you make your own, though. From what I’ve heard though, you almost had to know something about editing video to really make a decent one.

When developing Mind Movies 2.0, the creators decided to create a product that not only told people what Mind Movies were, but gave them an easy to use tool to help them do it. They created editor that would allow you to take pictures that they had in stock or that you uploaded yourself and drag and drag and drop them into a timeline. Then, you add a transition, the text you want, add some music, and you’re ready to go.

In version 2.0, it took a long time processing because they had to upload all the files to your computer, which then had to compile everything into a video. This process sometimes took hours, depending on the speed of the connection and the speed of the computer requesting the processing.

One of the things that I love about the Mind Movies member area is the Scriptwriting interview. This is a video where Natalie, one of the creators, walks you through the process of finding out what your goal, dreams, and values are. She does a fantastic job of helping you find what it is you really want. This helps give you the material to put into your Mind Movie.

Guess what? With Mind Movies 2.1, they made making your own video even easier and better. Now, in addition to having a wider range of photos, affirmations, and music to choose from, the program also inserts random transitions automatically. You can change these whenever you want. Best of all, it all gets processed behind the scenes. No more using up bandwidth to download, process, upload just to download again.

Another great addition was the integration to Facebook and YouTube. With the Facebook integration, you can now import any picture you’ve already uploaded into Facebook. If you’re anything like me, this will give you a lot of photos of your family you can insert into your own personal Mind Movie. With both integrations, you can “download” your video to either YouTube or Facebook — or both — as well as to your own computer in flash, Quicktime (for Macs) and WMV for Windows. This makes it easy to share your creations if you want to.

So how easy is it to make a mind movie? After you’ve uploaded your images from Facebook and any off your computer you might want to add to the mix, it’s as easy as dragging the image, either one of yours or a stock one from their selection, onto the timeline. Then, you can either click on the custom text button to create your own or drag and drop to use one of the existing affirmations. You can change the text if you want by clicking on the text button, and that will also give you some control over the font used and the placement in relation to the picture.

If you want to change any affirmation, picture, or transition, simply drag and drop over the top of the one you want to replace. Or you can insert a new one at any point on the timeline by either clicking on or dragging an affirmation or picture over the insert arrows. You can go over to the music tab at the top to choose the music to go with your video (or you can upload one you already have).

You can go to the preferences tab to adjust the text on frame and the picture on frame length — or you can use the check box to let it figure out how long to make each frame to fit the music you have. If you add more frames, you’ll have to recheck the box to recalculate, but this is a great way to make sure you’re using all the available music.

Now, if you’re like me, you have a cell phone, laptop, maybe a desktop, or possibly an iPad or some other tablet PC. Some of these are devices you can take with you just about anywhere, so why not use it to help you get where you want to go? I bet the folks at Mind Movies didn’t think of this possibility when they launched 2.1 — but I wouldn’t be surprised if it came out in the next version!

Now, I tried putting my WMV file on my Windows 7 phone, but it wouldn’t upload. Don’t know why, it just wouldn’t. So what I did was converted the WMV file to an MP4 file (making sure I kept the aspect ratio from the original file) and was able to upload that to my phone. Now I can take my Mind Movie anywhere and watch it anytime I want.

As I conclude this Mind Movies 2.1 review, I would definitely recommend it to anyone who wants to improve themselves. After having learned a few things about video editing, I can tell you using Mind Movies 2.1 to make one is a whole lot EASIER than trying to do it yourself, but it has enough options for customization that if you do know a thing or two, you can do some tweaks to the overall result.

Using Mind Movies 2.1 will help you put the goals you want to achieve in a format that you can use every day for encouragement. It won’t make you watch the videos — you have to do that yourself. But if it’s only 2 or 3 minutes long, and it is loaded with images as phrases designed to help you get where you want to go, why wouldn’t you watch it several times a day?
